Students of Elementary School are beginners who have limited English
background, as a result teaching English vocabulary to them becomes very
challenging. This condition stimulates the writer to do a research using Monopoly
Games to study the games can help students to develop their English ability and
improve the effectiveness of English language teaching.
The writer’s hypothesis was to see whether or not the use of Monopoly
Game has a significant effect of teaching English vocabulary. After conducting
the experiment or treatment, it was proved that using Monopoly Game had better
results. This was proved by some statistical calculation such as Mean, Standard
Deviation.
Statistically, the class with Monopoly Game gained higher mean than the
Class without game was 7.5 and 6.9 respectively. By comparing t-counted with t
table it was found that t-counted was higher than t- table (2.858>1.684). This
indicated that the mastery of vocabulary of the students who were taught using
Monopoly Games was better than those who were not taught using Monopoly
Games. In short, the writer concluded that the use of Monopoly Game could
increase students’ vocabulary more effectively than without it.
