Listening is one of the English language skills that must be mastered
by the students. The main purpose of listening a text is to comprehend the
spoken texts. But listening skill is a complex activity. Thus, there are many
students who find difficulties in listening skill especially in English
procedure text, because English procedure text is associated with sequence
of actions or steps, materials needed to achieve the goal, deal with human
behavior expressed using commands, action verbs, suitable vocabulary and
adverbial of time and place. The teacher needs to apply a method that
helps them in listening on English procedure text. One of the appropriate
methods is Total Physical Response (TPR). Therefore, the writer conducts
the research about The Effectiveness of Using Total Physical Response
(TPR) Method in Teaching Listening Skill on English Procedure texts.
This paper is aimed ta know TPR method is an effective method to
teach students listening skiil on English procedure text. In this paper, the
writer used the experimental quantitative research. This research was
conducted at the seventh grade students of SMP NEGERI 3 Cibinong-
Bogor. The population was 342 students and the sampie taken was 60.
students. There were two variables in this research. They were the
listening skill on English procedure text of the students who were taught
English procedure text using TPR {variable X1 ) and the listening skill on
English procedure text of the students who were taught English procedure
text using traditional method {variable X2 ). The data were gained from the
post test after the students were taught Engiish procedure text.
The result shows that the central tendency (mean, mode and median)
and the dispersion (low-high, range, and standard deviation) of variable X1
was higher than variable X2 And, the t-observed {2.549) was higher than t-
table (2.392) in degree of freedom 58 with level of signficance 1 %. This
finding shows that the difference between variabie X1 and variabie X2 was
very significant. Therefore, it can be concluded that TPR had a positive
effect in teaching the students listening skill on English procedure text.
