Abstak

ABSTRACT
Extensive Reading is a section of an English class that involves the school library
and is "designed to give students the time, encouragement, and materials they
need to succeed at their own pace and with as many books as they can, without
the pressure of tests or grades." This study aims to explore students' perceptions of
the implementation of this strategy. This research is a descriptive qualitative
research, by using questionnaire and interviews to collect the data. The
respondents were 30 EFL students of third-semester. The reveals that many
students are greatly helped by using extensive reading strategies, especially in
three categories. They are developing students' reading habbit, promoting
students' self learning, and improving students' motivation. We can conclude;
First, Extensive reading can increase interest in reading and a person's self
confidence. Second, the Extensive reading strategy is suitable or EFL students'
and using Extensive reading students discover new things and values contained in
it during reading. The last one, the impact on education is material that it easy to
understand and the student can learn new things.
