This study aims to explore students’ experiences of learning English speaking skills through mobile
applications. With the increasing integration of mobile technology in language learning, mobile
applications have become popular tools to support language learning. It is important to understand
how these applications support speaking practice, particularly when opportunities for face-to-face
interaction are limited. This study employed a qualitative case study design involving five
participants. Data were collected through narrative frames and semi-structured interviews to gain
deeper insights into students’ learning experiences. The findings reveal that mobile applications
provide a flexible platform that allows students to practice speaking independently outside the
classroom. Several features, such as voice recognition, instant feedback, and gamification elements,
were perceived as helpful in improving pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and speaking
confidence. Repetitive practice through the applications also helped students become more aware of
their mistakes and encouraged continuous learning. However, the study also identified several
challenges experienced by the participants. This includes limited authentic interaction, unnatural
conversation contexts, insufficient feedback, and difficulty in maintaining consistency in practice
due to time constraints. Nevertheless, mobile applications serve as learning aids that complement
the development of speaking skills. However, they cannot completely replace real communication
and interaction in language learning.
