Abstak

The research aims to find out about an overview of the PJBL implementation
method for teaching speaking in elementary school, the impact and challenges of
implementing the PJBL method in the teaching of speaking to young learners. This
study is a case study applying descriptive qualitative method. The data was
collected through observation and to capture the overall social setting in which
people function by recording the context in which they operate. The participant of
this study is an English teacher of an elementary school in Bogor City. To analyze
the data in this study, the researcher noted the data from observation, then classified
them in the similar theme, then the researcher related with data to gather the
previous theory and draw conclusions to answer the research questions. The results
demonstrated that the implementation of the PJBL method as a method of teaching
speaking in elementary school was well implemented in improving speaking skills
for young learners. PJBL was also successful in improving speaking skills for
students in this elementary schools in the form of the responsive such as has good
intonation, and the ability to take turns in a small conversation. However in this
study, there was a lack of pronunciation in a student's speaking ability, this study
also discovered three challenges that teachers encounter while implementing the
PJBL they are a lack of student regulation in the learning process, time constraints,
and difficult monitoring. This study recommend the practices to use other PJBL
activity to support group presentation and present a shadow teacher in the
monitoring process.
