Speaking is one of language skills that regarded as the most important use
of the target language learning because the objective of the target language
learning a foreign language is to use it in real communication. Meanwhile,
learning a language need motivation because by having good motivation the
students will be easy to access and transfer information. This research discusses
the factors of highly motivated learners in speaking skill and the students’ effort
in practicing speaking. In this study, the researcher used qualitative research with
a descriptive as a method. The participants in this research were fourth semester
students of English Education Program with 32 students which sorted only the
highly motivated learners are 7 students who completed questionnaires and
interview. The findings showed that there were five factors which affect students’
motivation in participating in speaking activity: (1) Integrative motivational
subsystem has average (4.86); (2) Self-confidence has average (4.43); (3) Course
specific motivational components has average (4.36); (4) Teacher-specific
motivational components has average (4.79); (5) Groupmotivational components
has average (3.71). And, the dominant factor is integrative motivational
subsystem. Then, there is five students’ effort in practicing speaking Skill: (1)
Watching movies; (2) Listening music; (3) Talking with friends or people of
society; (4) Go to somewhere to practice with native speakers; (5) Practice
speaking by themselves like they speaking in front of mirror, in the bedroom, and
in the bathroom.
