Learning is acquiring or getting and retention of information or skill,
which involves some form of practice, perhaps reinforced practice, and learning
change in behavior. Learning foreign language, especially English learners is not
an easy thing to do. They have to master the four skill, including listening one.
And the learners usually has difficulties to achieve learning achievement. The
quality of learning achievement depends on the student, teachers, curriculum,
facilities, management, funding and the support services. All factors work
integratedly to make success of the process
Learning style is one of the important factors to determine students’
listening achievement. There are three types of learning style. There are
kinesthetic learning style, visual learning style, and auditory learning style.
Learning style is the unique way or the best way of students in responding of
information they got from learning activity. The auditory style learners are those
who learn best through hearing things and Visual style learners are those who
learn best through seeing things. The purpose of this research is to investigate the
effect of learning style on students’ listening achievement. The research was done
at SMP Negeri 16 Bogor. The writer used quantitative method. The writer divided
the sample in two groups, auditory learners and visual learners.
After doing the research, the writer found that the students’ listening
achievement of auditory learners was better than students’ listening achievement
of visual learners. It was shown by the mean score of students of auditory learners
is 8.27 meanwhile the mean score of visual learners is 7.70. And there is
significant listening achievement between auditory and visual learning style. It
was shown by t-test, t-table 2.26 < t-test 2.92. It means that H0 was accepted.
