: The Effectiveness Feedback to Enhance Students’
English Motivation
ABSTRACT
In Indonesia, many students have low learning motivation, especially when
it is related to English learning. For some students, learning English is one of the
most difficult subjects. To ensure that students are motivated to learn English,
teacher need to make some efforts in learning process to enhance their motivation
in learning English. One of them is by giving feedback in English learning process.
Feedback is an information or a description provided by teachers which aims to
improve students’ performance. This research aimed to find out the feedback type
that are used by English teachers to enhance students' motivation in English
learning.
The qualitative descriptive method was adopted in this research, two
English teachers and 6 students at MTS Darul Ihya Ciomas, Bogor were taken as
the sample. The researcher used observation and interview as research instruments
to investigate the teachers' responses about the effective feedback in the classroom
and the student’s opinion about the effective feedback that are used in the English
classroom.
The result of this research is given by teachers are six feedback that effective
to enhance students’ English motivation. Two feedback shown most effective to
enhance students’ English motivation. Two feedback are positive feedback namely
praise in oral feedback and giving score in written positive feedback. Related to
oral feedback, the researcher found that students felt motivated whenever teacher
praise them in learning process. The researcher also found that giving score is also
preferred by the students in written feedback, because it makes students more
motivated when the teacher give score on the students’ task.
