The purpose of the study was to investigate how Podcasts application stimulate
students’ extensive listening skill. This study used descriptive qualitative case
study as a framework for analyzing and collecting the data. The qualitative data
were obtained from questionnaire, guided reflective journal, and interview. The
qualitative data were analyzed through transcribing, coding, and interpreting. The
participants of the study were eight of second semester students of a university.
The findings of the study revealed that Podcasts could stimulate students’
extensive listening skill in certain ways, such as could be the learning sources, a
benefit tool to enrich vocabulary, and an effective tool to mediate students’
extensive listening activities. The students showed a good response toward
Podcasts, and the Podcasts itself influenced students’ in some aspects of listening
skills. They became more interested and motivated in doing extensive listening
activities.
