The use of authentic English videos in language learning is becoming increasingly
essential in providing students with language input that relates to real-life situations
and a meaningful learning experience. This current research aimed at exploring
college students' perceptions of the use of authentic English videos in learning
vocabulary that would be discussed in more detailed in 3 (three) themes: general
use of the videos, students' motivations and challenges. This study employed a
qualitative case study approach involving 23 students of English Education Study
Program at a university in Bogor – West Java. Data were collected using a four
point Likert scale questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed using
thematic analysis. The findings indicate that the students had positive perceptions
of using authentic English videos in language learning with some results related to
the three themes. First, students’ perceptions on the use of authentic english videos
in vocabulary learning. Second, students’ motivation in learning vocabulary
through authentic English videos. Third, students’ challenges in learning vocabulay
using authentic English videos. In conclusion, authentic English videos are
effective in supporting vocabulary learning and increasing students’ motivation,
although appropriate supports and strategies are still needed to help students
overcome the challenges.
