Adverb has relationship with the verb in a sentence. Specifically, adverb is a
word used to modify verb in a sentence. It gives more information about the verb.
Adverbs are words used, typically with verbs, to provide more information about
actions, states and events. Knowing about adjectives and adverb of manner and
how both of functions are very important; and it is useful in the effort of using in
sentences. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate the correlation
between students knowledge of adjectives and adverb of manner and their writing
sentences ability of eleventh grade students at SMA IT DAARUL RAHMAN
Sawangan Depok.
The rnethodology of the research was quantitative method, specifically
correlation method. The population of the research was the eleventh grade of
SMA IT DAARUL RAHMAN Sawangan Depok. The total samples were Twenty
nine students. The instrument used to obtain the data was written test which has
two types. First instrument was measured by written test in which the students
choose adjective or adverb of manner correctly, to have sfudents mastery of
knowledge of adjectives and adverb of manner. Second was measured by using
adjectives and adverb of manner as suitable as the function of each sentence to
know students writing sentences ability. The result of the research showed that
there was no significant correlation between students knowledge of adjectives
and adverb of manner and their writing sentences ability. It was proved using
statistical operation the coefficient correlation that has been obtained was 0.04.
The correlation between two variables was slight. In addition, the correlation
between two variables was insignificant which was proved by the result of
significant test was 0.21.The result was tobserved)

significant of l%. Based on the result of investigation, the writer could not prove
the hypothesis. In this case, it was possible for many factors might influence
students writing sentence ability. I.e. lack of students vocabulary and their
understanding of English structure was weak.
