Writing is useful media for human being. Through writing students can
express ideas, feeling and thoughts that are arranged in a set of words, sentences,
and paragraphs using sense of sight, brain and hand. Descriptive text is a text that
should be mastered by junior high school students. This text describes the objects,
people or places. In describing, especially describing people students must have
knowledge about adjective. because adjective one part of speech that often appear
in descriptive text. To know about students adjective competence adjective in
descriptive text and what kinds of adjective that mostly used in writing descriptive
text. Therefore, the writer did research at SMP NEGERI IKEMANG.
The writer taught students three times in the class and explain about
adjective and descriptive text. Then, in the last meeting the writer instructed
students to write about their idols. After got the data, the writer analyzed it which
sentence that there was an adjective and found the correct and the error. The
writer sum up total of correct and error adjective using formula to know the
percentage of students adjective competence. Then, the writer classified adjective
into some categories to know the adjective that mostly used by students.
Having analyzed the data, the writer got the result; Students adjective
competence was still poor. It was showed that correct adjectives were only
57.59%. some students had known to make compound adjective. Students used
different position of adjective in sentence; they used adjective modifying pronoun
(predicative adjective), participial adjective and used possesive adjective. Students
error consisted of error inappropiate spelling, addition, inappropiate using
atrributive verb, inappropiate position of noun phrase, ommision, inappropiate
using modal has, incomplete adjective sentence, and inappropiate possesive
adjective. And it is suggested for students to write more to increase their ability in
writing.
