Annisa Hastari Cahyani
The world is currently in shock with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus which has
become a global pandemic, because of this, many activities have to be carried out
online, including learning. By conducting distance learning or online learning, it is
hoped that learning will be student-centered where students are active in the
classroom while the teacher becomes a facilitator, not having full authority over the
class. This study aims to determine teacher perceptions in fostering critical reading
in the pandemic era (portrait at Indonesian universities). The participants of this
research are lecturers who teach critical reading at a private university in Bogor.
The method used in this research is a qualitative method through case studies. The
research instruments used in this study were questionnaires and interview guides.
The findings show that from the results of the study, researchers found that critical
reading skills are needed in higher education, especially in helping them in learning.
Students are able to criticize scientific works, because of the way students analyze
the author's frame of mind, and what the author wants to convey in the text, and can
criticize if the writing is not in accordance with student understanding. Based on
the findings and discussion, it can be said that having critical reading skills in
students is determined because it can help students in carrying out their studies and
can also help them in writing scientific papers. Students are able to criticize
scientific works, in this case students are asked to analyze the author's frame of
mind, and what he wants to convey in the text, and be able to criticize if the writing
is not in accordance with student understanding. Because it will also affect students'
ability to compose logic when writing.
