As a developing country, Indonesia needs English for global
communication and government is trying hard to improve all aspects of English
teaching-learning. One of those aspects is teaching vocabulary effectively
education through media such as games. This is because game gives many
positive influences for student, such as learning vocabulary in a relaxing and
enjoying situation which lead them into good and fun situation. One type of the
games is Picture Domino Game. This paper is focusing on “Improving the
Students’ Ability in Mastering Vocabulary through Picture Domino Game.
The research was done at SMP PGRI KARADENAN Cibinong-Kabupaten
Bogor using quantitative method by comparing two groups of students, the
Experiment Class with picture domino and the Control Class without it. The
results of the study clearly show that the Experiment Class performs better than
the Control Class. Using some statistical calculations it was proved that t
observed was higher than t-table (15.57 > 2.02 with df (5%) and df 1% ( 2.71).
besides, the higher result of mean of experiment class (93) compared with
control class (70). The median of experiment class was also higher (92.5) than
the median of control class (70). The mode of experiment class was also higher
(90) that the control class (70).
Based on the criteria of test: Ho is rejected if t-observed > t-table or Ho
is accepted if t-observed ? t-table. It can be concluded Ho is rejected, it means
the research was significant. In brief, teaching vocabulary through picture
domino game can improve the ability in mastering vocabulary and provide fun
and enjoy atmosphere in the teaching-learning process.
