Academic writing is undoubtedly the most significant talent in academic settings. One of the most important writing skills is the capacity to summarize an idea or notion from a source text in the student's own words: this is known as a paraphrasing. Paraphrasing is a critical skill in academic writing; it is a major ability that necessitates higher-order thinking as well as strong reading and writing skills. With the development of technology, there are already many paraphrasing tools that assist students in academic writing, especially in paraphrasing sentences one of them is QuillBot as an artificial intelligence AI-powered digital tool. This study investigates the students? perceptions of the QuillBot web tool used in their paraphrasing process which includes the benefits and challenges the students encountered when using the tool. This study employed a qualitative and case study design by involving 30 students majoring in English language education for preliminary data. From the result of preliminary data, the researcher selected 10 students who are already familiar with Quillbot and they often use it more than 10 times for the next investigation. In investigating participants' perceptions, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used as instruments for data collection. The findings reveal that students in this study responded positively to using Quillbot in the process of paraphrasing sentences in academic writing. There are benefits they get, one of them is Quillbot can overcome students? anxiety and there are challenges they also face, and one of them is the limitation of a word while using Quillbot.
