This study aims to examine the challenges and opportunities in implementing
Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in
Vocational High Schools (SMK). This research uses a qualitative approach with a
case study design. Data were collected through closed-ended questionnaires and
semi-structured interviews with five English teachers from various expertise
programs at one of the vocational high schools in Bogor. The results of the study
indicate that the teachers understand the basic concepts of PjBL and its relevance
in the context of ESP. However, they face a number of obstacles, such as time
constraints, diverse student readiness, limited learning resources, and coordination
constraints across productive subjects. In addition, ESP projects based on PjBL are
considered relevant to the needs of the workplace and contribute to improving
students' academic achievements. These findings confirm the need for structural
support and ongoing training for teachers so that the implementation of PjBL can
run more optimally in the vocational high school environment.
