The present study aimed to investigate the preferences of EFL students on digital
platforms especially LMS, Google Classroom, WhatsApp, and Zoom during the
COVID pandemic learning and the impact of digital platforms in facilitating
students in learning English during the pandemic. This study used a mixed
method approach to combine quantitative and qualitative data together. This study
conducted by using a survey method and case study 2.0. There were 40 EFL
students from the Islamic University in Bogor, especially students of the English
Education Study Program in the semester range from two to eight to take part as
the participants. Data was collected using a closed-ended questionnaire based on
the CALL evaluation criteria, and semi-structured interviews. The findings
showed that LMS, Google Classroom, WhatsApp, and Zoom reached positive
agreement on the technology criteria for learning English and the impact on
learning English. Specifically, the criteria for language learning potential, Zoom
and GC got the highest average. On the meaning focus criteria, Zoom and
WhatsApp got the highest average. On the criteria learner fit, the authenticity and
positive impact Zoom got the highest average. In the practicality criteria,
WhatsApp got the highest average. Furthermore, the impact of using digital
platforms in learning English, such as the use of Zoom, which can improve
English speaking skills and discussion based on the learning materials. The
conclusion was the EFL higher students‘ preferences on digital platforms during
COVID pandemic learning was varied depended on the criteria suggested and felt
the impact when learning English using the digital platform of their preferred.
