For most of the students. speaking is considered as the most difficult
English skill to be mastered. In this paper, the writer offered modeling. which is
also one of the Contextual Teaching and Learning Principles, to solve that
problem. Modeling in CTL can come from a teacher, students, or even things.
Here, the writer asked a native English speaker to be a model.
ln doing this paper, the writer used quantitative method to identify the
ability of the students speaking skil using modeling. She chose 21 senior high
school students of the first grade as the sample.
Finding the result of the analysis data, it showed that the t-observed was
3,13 and the t-table by using degree of freedom 1% was 2.71 and 5% was 2.02.
The t-observed was higher than the t-table. lt means that Ho was rejected or there
was significant difference in teaching speaking rising modeling than without using
modeling.
