Reading is a life skill that can be used both in school and in everyday life. Reading
is the main activity in the teaching and learning process. Therefore, reading is an
important thing to cultivate. This study aims to determine the strategies used by
teachers in teaching reading comprehension and to determine student responses to
the strategies used by teachers in teaching reading comprehension. This study is
conducted based on qualitative research designt with descriptive analysis, the
instruments used in this study were observation and questionnaires, the subjects of
this study is 1 teachers and 10 student in 8th grade junior high school. Researchers
can conclude that the Scaffolding strategy is effective to apply in learning. Based
on the results of this study, 90% of students agree with the strategies used by
teachers’ in the learning process. This can be good information for teachers to
improve students' reading comprehension.
