In Indonesia the trend of teaching English to young leaners is no exception.
Besides in formal institution, young leaners in Indonesia also learn English in
informal institution such as EF, LIA, etc. The aim of this study is to investigate the
techniques that teacher employed in teaching speaking at a course in Bogor and to
know the teacher’s considerations in selecting the techniques. The researcher used
case study design with qualitative approach consisting of some data in the form of
word, phrase and sentence. In conducting the research, the researcher collected the
data through observation and interview. The result showed that there are several
techniques that teacher used in teaching speaking at a course in Bogor, such as,
games, songs, art & craft, drilling and repetition, describing pictures and questioning.
The teacher also have some considerations in selecting the techniques, they are
student’s characteristics and motivated techniques.
