Teachers often do not emphasize essential reading skill when teaching reading in school. They focus more on vocabulary buildings, comprehension skills and fluency skills. This should not happen because it is important for students to learn critical reading skills so that teachers can prepare them to become better critical readers. Reading is one of the most important processes for students to write scientific texts in English, especially in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. Critical reading is one of reading skills. Critical reading is the process by which readers expressing their critical thinking skills to the content of the passage. This study will find out what is the effect for students' critical reading skills, this study will focus on students critical reading skills through short stories in critical reading class. The participants of this study at one of the University in Bogor due to several, the reason is it can be reached. They are part of the population that is sampling, whether they can understand what they read or not. The purpose of using short stories to know the students’ perception on the use of short story for ctitical reading class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of short story have positive effect on students' critical reading skills. Hopefully, this study can help students in learning critical reading.
