Reading skill is one of the most essential language skills for students, yet many
Indonesian students continue to face significant challenges in reading literacy,
particularly in understanding narrative texts. A pre-observation conducted at SMAT
As-Salaam, Bogor, revealed that the majority of tenth-grade students were at a
beginner level of English proficiency and struggled with vocabulary when reading
narrative texts. Teachers had also not yet used any technology or digital applications
to support English learning activities. This study aims to investigate students'
perceptions on using the Readable Application in developing their reading skill on
narrative text. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study
approach. The participants were seven tenth-grade students at SMAT As-Salaam,
Bogor, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi
structured interviews and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis.
The findings reveal seven themes that emerged from the interview data, enjoyment,
understanding, preference, preferred features, benefits, difficulties, and
recommendation which collectively reflect students' perceptions toward the use of
the Readable Application in their reading learning process. In conclusion, the
Readable Application was perceived as a useful and supportive tool for developing
students' reading skills on narrative texts in the context of MALL.
