This study aimed to investigate the strategies used by teachers in their
teaching of reading and to describe the reason why the teachers’ used those
strategies in teaching reading. The participants of this study were two
English teachers from a state of junior high school in Bogor. Descriptive
qualitative design was employed in this study. The data of this study were
obtained by using classroom observation and interview. The findings
revealed that the teacher have used teaching reading strategies in three
reading stages: pre-reading, during reading and post-reading stages. The
teachers used various strategies in teaching reading, that is setting the
purpose of reading, scanning, brain storming, stop and think, comprehension
question, compare ideas and discussion. It is expected the result could be
contribution to better teaching of reading.
