According to Government Regulation No. 19/2005 on Standards National
Education, assessments are used to measure students' competences. The
information produced is used as well as possible to improve the quality of students
in the future. As a result, assessment plays a crucial role in the process of learning
activities. However, there were many complaints from students who objected to
receiving assessments from their teachers in the classroom. They experience
psychological pressure as a result of their teachers giving them improper or too
heavy homework or assessments. It means that teachers’ assessment literacy needs
to be improved. This study aims to find out how the literacy level of teacher
assessment can promote students' mental well-being during learning activities in
class, especially English class. The research uses the embedded mixed method by
using tests for teachers and interviews for teachers and students in obtaining the
data. The results obtained in this study show that teacher literacy is still at a low
level and has succeeded in promoting three of the eight mental issues, namely Panic
Disorder, Eating Disorder, and Suicide Feelings. In this situation, it is crucial to
enhance teacher assessment literacy in order to increase students’ mental wellbeing
and learning outcome.
