This study aims to explore the perceptions of pre-service teachers toward the use of
mobile applications, particularly ELSA Speak, in learning English speaking skills.
Using a qualitative case study design, the research involved five seventh-semester
pre-service teachers from a university in Bogor. Data were collected through Likert
scale questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed thematically.
The findings show that participants had positive perceptions of ELSA Speak. The
app was seen as useful, easy to use, and motivating. Features such as real-time
feedback, gamified exercises, and personalized learning supported more frequent
speaking practice, better pronunciation, and learner autonomy. Key influencing
factors included perceived usefulness, ease of use, feedback quality, and flexibility.
In conclusion, mobile applications like ELSA Speak can serve as effective
complementary tools for improving English speaking skills, especially in flexible
and independent learning contexts.
