Recently, listening to music is one of the activities that young people often do.
There are many music applications that can be used to listen to music. One of
them is the JOOX application. The JOOX application not only provides audio, but
also features such as lyrics and sing. JOOX application can be used as an
interesting media that can help students learn to speak. The purpose of this study
was to find out students' perceptions of how the use of JOOX in learning speaking
and also to find out the extent of the impact of using JOOX on students' speaking
skills. This research used descriptive qualitative research method. The
participants in this study were students of English Education at Ibn Khaldun
University, Bogor. Data were collected using two research instruments,
questionnaire and interview. The results of data collection, the writer found that
students were enjoy to learn English when used JOOX application because it
provided lyrics, students can listen henceforth sing by looking at the lyrics. In
addition, students also feel comfortable using JOOX because this application can
be used anytime and anywhere. Students also had positive perception on using
JOOX because they feel that not only their speaking has been improved, but their
writing, pronunciation, listening, and understanding of English have also
improved. Moreover, students feel their speaking skills engaged after using JOOX
and enrich their vocabulary.
