Teacher has responsibility to pass on lessons to the students. The goal is to
ensure the students for mastering the knowledge that is given by the teacher. To
make learning interesting and easily to be understood, every teacher has to be
creative. The teaching management is definitely different when it comes to
hearing-impaired students. Teachers surely will face a lot of problems and need
specific strategies. This study is aimed to describe teacher’s problems and
strategies in teaching English vocabulary for hearing-impaired students at
Outstanding School (SLBN) of Bogor. Statements of the problem covers : what
are the problems faced and what teacher’s strategies in teaching English
vocabulary for Hearing-Impaired students at SLBN Bogor. Research design used
is Qualitative research. Technique of data collection is observation and interview.
The participant of this study was an English teacher who teaches hearing-impaired
students. Teacher’s problems found in this study dealing with language, low
understanding, and less vocabulary. The strategies used in teaching English
Vocabulary applied at SLBN Bogor consisted of direct instruction, expository
instructions, visual aids, ASPIRE, Multiple baseline, pretest and posttest. Less
vocabulary is the problem that the teacher mostly faced in the classroom and the
strategy mostly used is visual aids in teaching English vocabulary for hearing
impaired students.
