Students’ Speaking Skill in Procedure Text
Abstract
Picture series can help the teachers in teaching learning process. The design
can be adapted with the students’ English lesson. Picture series can stimulate
students’ creativity, especially in speaking. The aim of this research is to find out
the students’ speaking skill who were taught by using picture series in procedure
text is better than students’ speaking skill who were taught by using jigsaw
method. The researcher concluded that picture series can be used to improve the
students’ speaking skill in teaching procedure text for the grade of Junior High
School.
The researcher used experimental quantitative method. The population was
the first grade students. The researcher took two classes as the sample. Those
were VII A as experiment class, and VII B as control class. Both consist of 20
students respectively.
The speaking of students who were taught by using picture series in
procedure text is better than the students’ speaking skill who were taught with
jigsaw method. It showed by mean score of group X1 (82) is higher than the mean
score of group X2 (71). There is a significant difference between the students’
speaking skill who were taught by using picture series in procedure text and the
students’ speaking skill who were taught by using jigsaw method in procedure
text. It showed by the score of t-observed was higher than t-table 3.010 > 2.423.
Meanwhile the t-table in the degree of freedom of 38 with level significance of
1% is 2.423. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted (Ha = to >
tt), and null hypothaesis (Ho) is rejected (Ho = tt < to).
