Abstak

Abstract
The research was aimed to know the implementation of Instagram in teaching
writing skill and to find out the improvement students’ skill at writing descriptive text by
using Instagram. The object of this research is tenth grade of senior high school consist 23
students in academic year 2019/2020. This research methodology is Classroom Action
Research (CAR). There are two cycle take in this research. The technique of analyzing the
data was applied by qualitative approach. The quantitative data were taken from the test
(pre-test and post-test) observation, diary note and documentation.
The result of implemented students’ skill at descriptive text by using Instagram
conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisted of four steps, and they were: Planning, action,
observation, and reflection. Each cycle was conducted in two meetings (one meting for
treatment and one meting for post-test), and pre-test taken before cycle I and II.
The improvement of the students writing descriptive text show in pre-test, post
test I and post-test II. The result of pre-test showed with the mean score 66, 60, Where,
there were only 8 students got success score criteria (43, 78%) and 15 students got
unsuccessful (65, 21%). After doing cycle I by using Instagram in mediating students
writing descriptive text, there was improvement of the student’s mean scores in post-test I
72, 30, Where, there were only 17 students got success score criteria (73, 91%) and 6
students were unsuccessful (26, 09%). Then for the second cycle there were improvement.
The students’ mean score in post-test II is 75, 30, Where, there were 23 students success
score criteria (100, 00%) and 0 student was unsuccessful (00, 00%).
The researcher concludes from data based on the interview, observation sheet, pre
test, post-test and diary notes. The implementation and the result of Instagram in mediating
students wiring descriptive text is successful. In addition, the research is useful in teaching
learning process.
