: Using Chain Pictures in Teaching Speaking Skill on
Narrative Text
ABSTRACT
This study is about using Chain pictures as a media in teaching speaking skill on
narrative text. It took place at second grade of one of Junior High School in Bogor.
This study aimed to find out whether chain picture is effective to be used to improved
students’ speaking skill on narrative text. This study was a quantitative research by
using test as the research instrument. The researcher divided class into two groups,
they are Experiment Class (X1) and Control Class (X2). The experiment class used
chain pictures as a media, while control class didn’t. The data analysis technique used
in this study was quantitative experimental method. Based on the data analysis, the
result showed that teaching speaking skill on narrative text using chain pictures is
better than teaching speaking skill on narrative text using text book. The mean
(average) of the students who were taught speaking skill on narrative text by using
chain pictures was 81, conversely the mean of the students who were taught speaking
skill on narrative story using book was 69.7. There is a very significant difference of
speaking skill between the students who were taught by using chain pictures and
those who were taught using book.
