: Gamification in Language Learning: A
Case Study of Duolingo Use Among EFL
Students
This study aims to examine how EFL students utilize the gamification feature
in Duolingo app and its impact on their motivation and engagement in English
language learning. Using a qualitative case study method, data was collected
through questionnaires and interviews with five students who have been using
Duolingo for more than one month. The results showed that features such as
XP, daily streak, challenges, and leaderboard were able to increase students'
motivation, engagement, and learning independence. Duolingo is considered
to provide a learning experience that is fun, flexible, and supports
independent language learning. Thus, gamification in this application is
proven to be effective in improving the learning process of EFL students.
