Teachers’ Questioning Strategies In Teaching Speaking

Asking question is one of the most common teaching tactics used.
Qualitative question directly influence classroom activities. In this research the
writer wants to explain types of questioning strategies used by the English
teacher in during. Concerning with the problem statements; the purpose of the
study are follow: To analyze the questioning strategies which applied by English
teachers in teaching speaking and to investigate the teacher’s perception on their
questioning strategies. The research was conducted using qualitative research.
The participants of this research are two English teachers of seventh grade in
junior high school. In this research, the researcher is going to adopt both
observation and interview as instruments needed to complete data of the
research. Base on finding and discussion, the researcher can conclude that the
teacher posed dominantly Yes/No question (33, 85%). Referential question was
32,30%; display question was 11,80%; Short- answer/Retrieval question was
10,25%; Open-ended question was 6,21%; and Non-Retrieval Question/Imaginative question was 5,60%.
