Abstract
In the 21st century, the proses of teaching and learning is closely related with the
use of information and communication technologies (ICT). The use of information
and communication technologies in teaching can make the students have a fun,
enjoyable learning and also interesting. Integrating the role of ICT in education or
in teaching and learning process can be done by the use of certain media or
application. In this case, in teaching reading, the researcher uses gamification with
Kahoot or application that may be useful and effective. This research aims at pre
service English teachers’ perceptions in using gamification with Kahoot in EFL
Reading Class at Islamic High School in South Thailand. The researcher used
qualitative method and adopted focus group discussion and interview to collect the
data. The participants were seven participants from eleven pre-service teachers in
South Thailand, but only five pre-service English teachers were chosen when
teaching practicum at Islamic High School in South Thailand. The findings of the
research showed that the pre-service English teachers’ perceptions in using
gamification with Kahoot in teaching reading to EFL students in South Thailand
were: 1) Gamification effective teaching methodology for mediating students’
reading activities, 2) Gamification with Kahoot was able to help the teachers to
create positive atmosphere in teaching reading, 3) Kahoot as a useful tool for
teaching enjoyable.
