The aim of this research is to know the procedure in applying teaching
speaking skill for interviewing respondents using Wh-questions and how-question
to get the information in the process of writing news item text and the
effectiveness of the method itself. The study was conducted at English course
instead of in the normal class at SMK PGRI 3 Bogor where one class of 10th grade
participated as the interviewer and interviewee. One class consisted of 15
students.
In doing this research, the writer applied the experiment method which
used quantitative data. It was frequently referred to as hypothesis testing research.
The examination type of this research used the measurement of central tendency
test (Mean, Median, and Modus) and t- test.
The result of the study showed that improving the students’ ability to
interview respondent in the process of writing news item text using Wh-questions
and how-question had significant difference between pre-test (before the
experiment) and post-test (after the experiment). It is supported by the result of
the research and data analysis where means of interviewing assessment were
47.27 and 60.07 respectively. In addition, the result also shows that the value of
ttable (tt.ts.5% = 2.14 and tt.ts.1% = 2.98) and tobserves (5.224). Statistically it was written
as 2.14 < 5.224 > 2.98. Since tobserves was higher than ttable then Ha was accepted or
in the other word that improving the students’ ability to interview respondents
using Wh-questions and how-question in the process of writing news item text
was more effective than without to use Wh-question and how-question.
