Teaching and learning activities have been carried out using an online system since
March 2020. The shift from offline to online learning force teacher to faces problems
in the learning process. And, teaching English learners online brings own challenges.
Teachers are required to recognize these common problems, and work to find
solutions. The objective of this study is to find out teacher problems while teaching
English to young learners during pandemic and to find out strategies that teachers
implemented for solve the problems. The researcher conducted survey method design
and holding an online interview and questionnaire with three English teachers who
are teach young learners. The result of this study show there are six problems that
teachers faced in teaching English for young learners. (1) student misunderstanding in
listening vocabularies and pronunciations, (2) lack of technology devices, (3) limited
internet access and poor signal, (4) lack of interaction between students and teacher,
(5) lack of discipline, (6) different mode of learning. She also found six strategies that
teachers implemented in teaching English for young learners during pandemic. (1)
Bring the helpers from the community (parents), (2) Use L1 as resource as necessary,
(3) Involve the student in making visuals and realia, (4) Move from activity to
activities, (5) Establish classroom routine in English, (6) Teach in themes.
