Learning language is not matter of acquiring a set of rules and building up
a large vocabulary. All of students in our country who learnt English as foreign
language usually make a lot of mistakes and errors. It is quite understandable
because it needs more time to change their habit on pronouncing or structuring
language target. But, however, it is important steps to be good learners. Errors can
be analyzed or classified in a common thing made by learners in foreign language
learning process.
In this case the writer tried to pay attention to an analysis of concord errors
made by the students of the third year of MAN Parungpanjang. Concord (another
word for agreement) is a grammatical relationship of the words, which affects the
form of one or more of them. Concord or Agreement is concurrence between
subjects with predicate used in sentence. In concord, there have few things which
have to be considered if you want to make a sentence. The writer wants to find out
whether the students made errors in concord.
To analyze errors of concord made by students, the writer needs some
results from the data of the results test on the class. To support collecting the data,
the writer makes questions in the form of multiple choices and gives to the
students as research instrument, and the question consists of 20 questions.
Based on the result of test subject verb concord which shown from the
table of data, it is shown that respondents or students made errors in concord is
very strong. Based on the data it can calculate that in a whole from 20 questions in
test, in average, the students make errors 9 until 10 questions. It is close to half
questions in test of concord. In percentages 45-50 %, the students make errors in
concord. And the highest error made by students is the rule of concord when
sometimes the subject is separated from the verb by words such as along with, as
well as, besides, or not.
In conclusion, errors on concord were still made by most students of third
year of MAN Parungpanjang. After the writer analyzes all errors made by the
students, it was found that the error belonged to intralingual error. It is caused by
interferences of the target language, when one of them is ignorance of rule
restriction. In relation to this, it is suggested that the English learners should be
more careful in using grammar.
