Feedback toward Students’ Pronunciation

Abstract

According to Sato & Lyster (2012, p. 591—626) “Corrective feedback is
information given to learners regarding a linguistic error they have made.”
Corrective feedback is the way the teacher gives response to students when the
students have any mistakes. A recast is a technique used in language teaching to
correct learners' errors in such a way that communication is not obstructed.
Uptake is also a student’s utterances that immediately follow the teacher’s
feedback and that constitutes are action in some way to the teacher’s intention to
draw attention to some aspect of the student’s initial utterance.
This study was conducted to find how students’ perspectives on teachers
corrective feedback during the lesson. This research only focuses in two kinds of
corrective feedback; recast and uptake feedback. In this research the researcher
used qualitative method to collect the data through observation, interview and
questionnaire. The sample of this research was the students from Alyssa
Kindergarten in Bogor.
Students’ perspectives to teachers’ feedback is the most students prefer to
receive recast feedback than uptake feedback because they felt more relax,
comfortable and confident. The way of deliver recast is more easily understood by
the students.
