This paper is entitled Improving Descriptive Writing through Cooperative
Learning using STAD (Students Teams Achievement Divisions) Method at VIII
Grade SMP PERSADA Bogor. The purpose of this research is to know the
students’ abilities in improving descriptive writing using Cooperative Learning
through STAD method in the first and second cycles. The study examined is
whether students are more motivated in studying English especially in writing.
The instruments used for gaining the data are observation, interviews, and
writing test scores. The data analysis was determined using the Pearson
correlation. For the interview, it was conducted to the students for finding out the
students’ viewpoint about English teaching activities during the teaching-learning
process carried out. For the observation, it was conducted to know directly the
whole occurrences that the students have during the instructional process, and the
result found was that there was a good in interest, attention, cooperation and
participation in learning descriptive writing using cooperative learning through
STAD method.
And for the test, it was aimed at finding out the information about the
students’ ability in groups in writing descriptive using cooperative learning
through STAD method, and the result showed that the students’ ability in
descriptive writing using cooperative learning through STAD method was better
than before. It was proven by the result of mean of writing descriptive, and Ho is
rejected and Ha is accepted.
