Tiwi Handini
One way to maximize an assessment is to do a project based on the concept of the
real world which can stimulate student skills. Through writing students can express
what is in their mind and pour it into the writing. Writing can also be used as one
of the effective assessment methods for students. The aim of this study was to
explore the washback effects of project-based assessment in writing class at
university level. Participants from this study are six students from one of the
universities in Bogor. In collecting data researchers using structured interviews and
documentation from academic articles that have been written by previous
participants. This study found that project-based assessment through writing
academic articles obtained two effects, namely positive and negative effects.
Positive effects such as honing critical thinking skills, training student resilience,
hone student argumentation skills, building comprehensive reading, building
navigation students for academic articles and honing students' writing skills. For
negative effects such as students having difficulty finding articles as a reference
source who caused students to be disappointed and unmotivated in writing
academic articles, lack of student time management, lack of direction, and students
consider writing academic articles is difficult. For further research project-based
assessment through writing can be one of the effective ways in assessment for
students because by writing can see the ability in these students. With project-based
assessment through writing has benefits for students such as students can hone their
skills.
