Speaking is the ability to use and express words. It is one of the four basic
communication skills: listening, reading, and writing. Speaking is an essential
basic skill, especially in the English language. The role of the teacher is critical
in this case. Therefore, the teacher must know the location of the problem and
be able to solve it with the strategy made. This research aims to discover the
problems teachers face and what strategies can improve students' English skills.
Qualitative methods and case studies are used to explain the data in depth, and
it takes five teachers who have taken English courses. This study used
questionnaires and interviews as research instruments to obtain data. The results
of this study indicate that discussion, role-play, and presentation strategies are
dominant in improving students' English speaking skills at school.
