: Student’s Perception on The Use of Cartoon Story
Maker As a Media of Learning Speaking
ABSTRACT
This study investigates students' learning to speak through cartoon story makers and
then to find out students' perceptions when using the cartoon story maker
application as a medium to learn to speak and understand what is in the application
and various problems arise when there are obstacles in learning such as students
cannot develop a way of speaking in English. Qualitative case study research using
questionnaires and interviews as instruments with five third semester students from
the English Department at a university in Bogor. The findings show that the
operation of cartoon storytelling creates understanding of the students, both enjoy
the knowledge process and increase their creativity and productivity and have a
good atmosphere in the classroom. In addition, the researcher also described the
responses in their speaking ability by using a cartoon story generator operation. The
creators of cartoon stories did not have a good impact on the students' English
speaking skills, their speaking skills did not improve optimally. In addition, the
appearance of the cartoon story makers received positive and negative responses
from students. The negative findings revealed that the students brought the use of
cartoon storytellers who they said that this operation was not enough to improve
their speaking skills. Because they concentrate more on the use of vitality and
basically this operation aims to increase the creativity of the students and make
them understand to have toughness in teaching through application media.
