Ketika diberi beban tekan
aksial, meskipun tegangan tekan rata-rata di dinding kaleng masih jauh di bawah
yield strength aluminium, ketidakstabilan geometris dapat menyebabkan dinding
kaleng menekuk ke samping (buckling). Pada saat buckling awal, material masih
berperilaku elastis.
mengakibatkan deformasi plastis (kerusakan permanen).

Aluminium can recycling offers significant potential in waste management,
particularly due to its characteristics that make it easy to separate from other types
of waste. Its main benefit is the efficiency of waste storage space. Considering that
most of the press machines available on the market still rely on electric motors as
their power source, this study aims to serve as an initial study in the development
of more affordable press machines for scrap collectors, thereby facilitating an
increase in recycling activities. The research was conducted using a quantitative
approach, where the can press machine and its components were analysed through
theoretical calculations and FEA simulations with a force of 150N applied to the
lever. The analysis results showed that the force applied to the lever could generate
an output force of 761 N on the plunger. The analysis indicated that with an output
force of 761 N, the aluminium can press machine components could withstand a
force of 761 N. This was proven by theoretical calculations and FEA analysis,
which showed that the components did not experience stress exceeding the
material's allowable stress and had a safety factor greater than 1 (>1). Based on
the above calculations, the piston reaction force of 761 N exceeds the critical
buckling force of the can (594.4 N). Theoretically, the can will experience buckling
(bending) when compressed by the piston. Aluminium cans have thin walls, which
provide low flexural stiffness against lateral bending. When subjected to axial
compressive loads, even though the average compressive stress in the can wall is
still far below the aluminium's yield strength, geometric instability can cause the
can wall to bend sideways (buckling). During initial buckling, the material still
behaves elastically. However, further buckling and increased load thereafter can
cause local stress to exceed the yield stre
