Translating comprehension is a complex activity. Students performed error is one of the characteristics in translating process. It is an natural phenomenon since students are facing various language system both in target and source language. An analysis on errors would help teacher improve their teaching performance so that kind of errors could be minimized. This study is trying to make an analysis on student’s errors in translating Indonesia reduplication into English. In this paper, the writer used experimental research with qualitative research. This research was conducted to the sixth grade students of Ibn Khaldun University of Bogor. The population was 90 students and it was taken 30 students as the sample.
By following the procedure of doing errors analysis, the result of this research reveals that all students perform errors. The most common error performed by students is in translating full reduplication which reaches 28,1 %. Next is reduplication with affixes which reaches 27,9%, reduplication with s sound changes 25,7% and the last is partial reduplication which reahes 18,2%.
Beside, other finding of this study are that were four types of error performed by the students. They are miss formation which reaches 30,7%, omission which reaches 27, 3%, miss ordering which reaches 20,8% the last is addition which reaches 17,1%. The study also identified that intralingual transfer is one of the source of errors covering false concept hypothesized 37,2%, incomplete application of rules 25.9%, ignorance of rele restriction 21,2% and over generalization 13.4%.
This description is important as the guideline for teacher in developing lessons material and instruction especially those which are dealing with the translating of Indonesia reduplication into English.
