This study was carried out to promote the visually impaired students’ speaking
ability using podcasts with permission on the SLB Cahaya Qur'an. The subjects of
this study consisted of 14 visually impaired students. The method used in this
study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study was conducted
following the Kurt Lewin model with the following procedures of action research:
planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study was carried out in two
cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. The data were gathered in this
study through interviews, field notes, and tests. The result of the study showed
that there was a promotion of students’ speaking ability. Most of the students
gradually gained good scores at the end of each cycle. The score of the Minimum
Mastery Criterion- Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of the English lesson was
70 (seventy). The students’ mean score in the preliminary study was 28.3. The
mean score in the first cycle was 60.85. The mean score in the second cycle was
74.85. In addition, there was a positive response from the English teacher about
implementing the action. In conclusion, the podcast could promote visually
impaired students’ speaking ability.
