Abstak

Spotify is one of the most well-known apps globally. It is a digital music,
podcast, and video streaming service that provides listeners access to millions of
songs and other content from artists around the world (Andriani, 2018). This study
investigates the perceptions of third-semester students regarding the use of Spotify
as a technology-based learning tool to enhance their English listening skills.
Listening is a crucial aspect of language acquisition, yet learners often find it
challenging. With the increasing integration of digital platforms in education,
Spotify has gained popularity for its potential educational benefits. The study aims
to evaluate students' perception of using Spotify as a learning media to develop
better their listening skills, enhance motivation, and foster overall development in
listening abilities. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected
through questionnaires completed by eight students and semi-structured interviews
conducted with three students. The findings indicate that students perceive Spotify
as an accessible, flexible, and enjoyable tool that can enhance their listening skills
through a variety of audio content, especially English songs. The platform's
features, such as customizable playlists and lyrics display, significantly contribute
to students' motivation and active listening practice. Students reported positive
experiences with Spotify, emphasizing its role in creating a fun and engaging
learning environment. The results show that implementing technology-based media
such as Spotify into English learning can develop better listening skills, and
increase students' motivation.
